FAQs – Rooftop Solar / Net Metering
WHAT IS SOLAR ENERGY
The energy from sun, also known as solar energy is available for free and can be converted into usable electrical energy by using "photovoltaic" panels or also known as solar PV. Photovoltaic systems use energy from the sun to create electricity to run appliances and lighting. We can have these panels as rooftop or ground mount.
- The source of energy is free
- Reduces Electricity Bill
- Lasts a very long time, over 25 years
- Free of cost energy after payback period of plant
- No pollution, renewable source of energy unlike fossil fuel
- Low maintenance
What would be the roof size for installation of a Solar Plant?
For 5 Kilowatt peak Solar Plant approximately 60 sq meter or 72 square yard shadow free rooftop space will be required.
What is the optimal Solar capacity to be installed as per Net Metering Guidelines?
As per the DERC guidelines, maximum solar plant capacity should be the Sanctioned Load of the connection. If a consumer wants to install plant beyond this capacity, he/she need to pay the additional SLD charges as per DERC Guidelines.
Will Tata Power-DDL allow any Solar Project for Net Metering?
Tata Power-DDL will carry out Technical Feasibility assessment as per DERC Guidelines for Net Metering (Pl refer to TPDDL Feasibility Checklist) of any Solar Project.
As per DERC Guidelines maximum solar capacity to be allowed for Net Metering in a particular Distribution Transformer will be 20% of its capacity. Tata Power-DDL will allow feasible Solar Projects of its consumers for registration on first-come-first-serve basis.
What is the process for adjustment of Solar energy for ToD Customers?
The electricity consumption in any time block (e.g., peak hours, off-peak hours, etc.) shall be first compensated with the electricity generation in the similar time blocks in the same billing cycle. For the purpose of carry forward of surplus or set off of energy credits, the energy units shall be moderated as per the relevant rebate/surcharge percentage of ToD Tariff.
